Ghost Girl Of The Haunted Depot
At the Train Station in Poplar Bluff, MO, it is said a woman can be seen roaming about around 3 am. She visits the station awaiting the arrival of her husband who had previously departed for business down the line and never returned. The woman learns her husband's business in Chicago was nothing more than a lovers getaway between the man and his mistress. Distraught she went back to the station and threw herself in front of the 21 from Chicago, the very same train her husband was arriving on. To this day, an encounter between visitors and the woman include the haunting question "What time does the 21 from Chicago arrive?"
The Poplar Bluff Historic Depot Restoration Corporation is a not for profit organization and will utilize funds raised through admissions and sponsorships to rebuild and restore the Historic Train Depot in 2012.
Ghost Conductor of the Haunted Depot
There was a conductor. Whom lost his footing and the momentum of the train pulled him under. Now it is said that at certain moments of the night. He is seen walking up and down the platform asking for your ticket. He is dressed in an old conductors uniform, striped overalls, matching hat and blue short. He is seen carrying his lantern and at times just the lantern is seen along the tracks, some think this is another ghost read on to find out about her.
Ghostly Lantern Along the Tracks
There are many suspicions of the lantern including the last ghost story you read, but, it is also said that the lantern is that of a mother killed in mourning over her son. The yound man was an employee for the rail road company he was working on the train when he was killed. His mother filled with grief and anguish weant into a stage of denial. Every night at the time of his death she would go to the tracks searching for her son whom she believed was hiding from her. She did this so often she did not pay attention to the trains any longer until that faitfull night. In search for her son she saw the train coming she began to cross the tracks and get out of the way of the train, when she tripped losing her head as the train rolled over her. She is still seen there on the tracks searching for her son, and head.
